It all starts with a brief.
The client approached us with an idea. They wanted to upgrade their current TV cabinet and have a real ‘statement piece’ that could sit in the corner of their living room for all to see.
Design first, build second.
With the brief in mind, we drew up plans for a simple bespoke metal frame to tie together the unique flowing lines of the timber shelves and cabinet top.
From rough timber comes beautiful, natural forms.
We chose a beautiful, rough, character oak slab to form the shelves and cabinet top. The timber was thicknessed (brought down to its final thickness) and then shaped using power carving to create flowing, natural lines.
Letting imperfections shine
We tend to celebrate imperfections and character in the timber that we use. The character oak we used certainly lives up to its name and is full of cracks, knots and interesting grain patterns. Some deeper cracks required stabilising using epoxy resin, but most were kept.
Finishing up.
After a lot of sanding (this usually takes hours on any project of this size), the oak was finished with a hard wax oil produced by Osmo. The perfect finish for creating a hardwearing surface, whilst highlighting the characterful grain of the oak.
This project was fully bespoke, so if you have an idea for a bespoke piece of furniture, then get in touch.
